My truck has started backfiring. It drops to a low idle when I start it, and it makes a weird noise when the rpm's drop.

Hello,

This could be a problem with the Idle Air Control (IAC) valve on your engine. This is a PCM controlled valve that allows the proper amount of air to bypass the closed throttle plate when the vehicle is at idle. In the diagrams down below I have included diagnostic testing guide for your vehicle's IAC valve. Please go through it and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex
