Normally you must stick with the correct size and year to insure all the computer controls and emissions systems work properly, however, in this case, I happen to know a fellow who dropped in a 3.5L in his mother's car. All the mounts and brackets were the same, and even the same Engine Computer worked. What I do not remember is the years of the car and the engine, so there still could be some differences that are not interchangeable. This is a rare instance where two different engine sizes interchange. Do not expect to find that very often. Also, we do not have emissions testing here, so I cannot address that either.

Swapping all depends on what you are trying to do. That platform came with the 2.7 V6, 3.5 V6, The 5.7 and 6.1 hemis. In countries other than the US you could also get a 3.0 diesel. The V6s could be directly interchangeable or require minimal work like CARADIODOC posted. The V8s would require many different parts to work. If you wanted to stay with the "stock" engine options, the easiest way is to locate a good running 300 with the parts needed. OR if you want to go the old school way, get out a torch and welder and you can make just about anything fit in there.
