Engine removal

I have unbolted all bolts to transmission and can get it to slide apart about two to three inches but then cannot get it all the way apart.

Were the torque converter bolts removed?

It is a dual mass setup it is not supposed to have any converter bolts.

This is a DSG unit, the manual transmission with the automatic controls correct? About the only item that would stop it would be the pilot bearing. Although I do not recall it being that far away from the back of the flywheel center. I have seen them get rusty so I suppose they could stick on the shaft. What is it coming apart for? Flywheel failure?

You have to remove the passenger side output shaft flange (6mm hex). The axle flange cannot fit around the flywheel, it must be removed.
