Car cranks up fine cold after five to ten miles runs rough and stalls. If I take battery cable off and put back on the car starts. I have code p0118 but other codes come up. After sitting for five to thirty minutes it cranks but goes only a mile or so and stalls. Other codes that come up are: p032, p038, p0400, p0502

Hello,

You will need to recheck codes P032 and P038. The format for Direct Trouble Codes (DTC)(s) is a letter followed by four numbers. Also, I show no listing for DTCs P0400 or P0502 in either one of our reference guides, but I have included the factory diagnostic troubleshooting guide for DTC P0118 in the diagrams down below. You will need to use a digital multi-meter for these tests. Here is a link describing how to use one if you are unsure on how to do it:

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-use-a-voltmeter

I have also included guides on how to find a short to ground, a short to power and an open in an automotive electrical circuit for you in the diagrams down below for you as well. Please go through these guides and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Hi, just wanted to jump in really quick. Wifey use to have a PT Cruiser and wow, when she had that issue also it gave me all sorts of headaches because for some reason her car was not to ever break down like that. Now to the point. If your vehicle stalls out, does it just crank over from there and not start until it has cooled down? If that is the issue I would recommend you just replace the cam and crank sensor. They always go out. Also check your wiring. If the harness is shorting out some where it will cause this condition.

Most PT Cruisers that had this issue I would replace the cam sensor and all good and then again act up where after replacing crank sensor all was good. And vise versa, if I replace the crank sensor it be ok and again same issue until I replace the cam sensor? Those sensors are really cheap. No more then $30 each so I would just throw them on.

As for the ect sensor fault I would look for a coolant leak first. Most likely water pump, very common problem. The other fault codes are pretty straight forward. Hope the information I gave you helps you. Wifey does not have the vehicle no more. After a headhasket repair and 2 control modules I had to get her a new car. But those are the problems I ran into with her car, family, and customers.
