Hi, have a mild leak from engine oil pan. Looked for a gasket at FCP Euro, and could not find one. Broader internet search returned multiple tubes of RTV. Anyone have a procedure for replacing the gasket/sealant for a V-6 3.0L engine oil pan?

Thanks,
Tim

Hi,

I'm not sure where the leak is because there is a lower and an upper oil pan on this vehicle. The lower one isn't too bad of a job, but the upper requires a good bit of work.

As far as the gasket is concerned, they don't use for this vehicle. I'm sure if you search, you will find one, but the manufacturer recommends using a sealant.

I attached the directions below for the removal of the upper oil pan. If it is only the lower, just remove that section. Note that you will need to support the engine to do this and there are a few different components that will need to be removed.

Take a look through the directions and let me know if you have questions. Also, the specifications are listed in the last few pics. I highlighted what the manufacturer recommends.

Take care,

Joe

Hi Joe, thanks so much for this guidance. If I find only the lower pan leaking, can you remove that without engine support? I know the lower oil pan was leaking lightly, just drips in the sound proofing that I was cleaning when it was off for transmission oil changes. I assume that leak is worse, and no new leaks have developed. I am now getting oil drips under the car when parked, that is how I know something has changed.

Hi,

Yes, the lower oil pan can be removed much easier. If you look at the pics below, I provided the much easier directions for the removal and replacement of the lower oil pan.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
