Just bought the car and the engine management has come on, have run a test the code referred to a CAN fault, I do not a clue what that is.

Hi
Thanks for getting back so quickly.
My OBD reader came up with 3 codes but 2 were the same.
P1642
P1000
P1642

Hope this is some help.
This morning when I started the engine there was no engine management light, after a mile of driving it came on. Could have been the damp? I'm honestly stumped, hate modern cars.

Kind regards
Leonard

OK, the P1000 simply means the codes have been cleared recently and have not completed all the testing since then.

That leaves you with one code, P1642. That code indicates a problem with communication from the PCM.

That can be a wiring problem, a bad PCM or a bad dash cluster. It requires some high tech testing to find the problem and if the problem is intermittent, that will be very difficult for even the most experienced tech to find.
You can look for obvious damage to the PCM or wiring connectors but that may be the limit to your ability to find this problem.
