When the car is turned on or idle, I hear a clicking sound. Also, when the car is turned on the smell of petrol is strong.

Hello,

By the noises in the short video, it sounds like the hydraulic valve lifters are noisy.
This can be caused by low oil level, dirty or incorrect oil, low oil pressure (worn oil pump) or worn valve lifters.

See a good video on how to replace it, it is a 1.8 engine but also applies to your engine.

I would suggest starting by checking the engine oil. If dirty or unsure when it was last replaced, I would suggest flushing the engine and changing the oil and filter.

Can you please be more specific where the fuel smell is coming from?
At the engine or near the fuel tank?

Cheers, Boris

Hello,

The noise from the hydraulic valve lifters would be classified as normal on a higher mileage engine. Your engine has only covered 32,000 miles, so with the correct oil and oil level and with regular servicing, it should be more or less silent in operation.

Is the fuel smell noticeable when the engine is cold, on startup, or is it still there when the engine has reached operating temperature?

Cheers, Boris

Hello,

A fuel smell from the exhaust on cold start is quite normal as the engine management system will enrichen the fuel mixture to aid cold start and running.

The vehicle should drive as normal with the ticking noise. Suggest you check that the oil level is correct.
