The clean idle sound is not happening anymore. It’s been doing this since I had the timing off and bad distributor. I had a sputtering issue and I replaced the the spark plugs and wires (NGK). Before replacing the distributor. Once I replaced the the distributor the sputtering went away. Since then I’ve adjusted the time for less sluggish acceleration. So that has improved, and recently brought the idle down from 1,000 rpm to 900 rpm. The idle screw is maxed out. So I’m also trying to figure out why I can’t get the idle between 700 or 750 rpm?

Hello,

In a manual transmission vehicle you want to have the idle a little higher than you would in an automatic transmission vehicle to help with the clutch engagement when starting out in first gear. 900 - 1000 R.P.M.'s is right about where you want your vehicle to idle. I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Alex
