Engine knocking

While cruising at low speeds, the engine knocks on accelerating from a speed of between forty and fifty kmph. It does not happen at higher or lower speeds.
Is it because it does not sense the drop in speed and change gears?
Could you suggest a possible cause/solution?

Many cars can be very picky about their fuels. Poor fuel quality could cause what is called a "spark knock." Which sounds similar to an engine knock. What brand of gas do you usually get?

Thank you for the reply.
I live in India and use the regular petrol supplied by Indian oil company.
This problem occurs only at a speed of around forty kmph, not at higher or very low speeds.
At times I anticipate the knocking and shift gears using the paddle shift. It goes into third gear and does not knock on accelerating then. Hence I thought of a problem fue to the gear shift not occurring on time.

Do not disregard the knock sensor itself, a code read will tell you if the sensor is faulty.

Definitely get the codes checked. If the service engine light is on, and let us know what it says. If the light is not on, I would try a different fuel, if anything is available. Admittedly, it has been twelve years since I have been to India, so I do not really remember what your options are concerning fuel.

No warning lights are on.
If it is a fuel problem would it not knock at all speeds?
Will ask Toyota guys about the codes.

In my experience spark knocking is usually heard at certain engine speed ranges (usually low speeds). That is not to say that it is not happening at all speeds, but that is just when it can be heard.
