Ran codes using a jumper wire. Got a code 41. Crankshaft position sensor error. Can't locate the sensor on the engine.

Hi,

This doesn't have a traditional crankshaft position sensor. On this vehicle, it is a pick up coil inside the distributor. See pic below.

As far as the problem, have you checked for diagnostic trouble codes? If not, here is a link that explains how to check:

If you haven't already, I recommend checking for codes.

Let me know what you find,

Joe

Thank you, Joe. It seems I found the right place for answers. Your info helps a ton. I did run diagnostic test. Got code 41. But I'm going to use the link you sent and see if I get anything more. Thanks a bunch. I'll update you on progress as it comes.

Hi,

You are very welcome. As far as the code is concerned, it is related to the sensor you mentioned.

If you look below, I attached the diagnostics specific to the code. Take a look through them and let me know if you are comfortable performing them.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

Hi:

No problem. The diagnostics are to determine if the pick-up/crank sensor is working properly.

If you are uncomfortable performing the test, by any chance do you have access to a different distributor?

If not, try this. Disconnect the battery for approx 30 minutes. When you reconnect it, the code should be cleared. At that point, crank the engine a few times and see if the code comes right back. If it does, I suspect the distributor may need replaced.

Let me know.

Joe
