Engine did start, but very sluggish, then finally shut off. Tried jumping it because the battery ran down, to no avail. Not getting gas to the carburetor. Replaced fuel pump and filter, also burnt coil. Now gets gas to the carburetor, almost fires but just keeps cranking.

Have 3/4 tank of gas, is o degrees F, have battery charger on battery, do not have engine block or radiator in-line heater.

Can you suggest next troubleshooting route?

You need to list the correct model year because the systems are very different. If you really do have a carburetor, the fuel pump is on the side of the engine, then I need to know if you have a Lean Burn Computer hanging on the side of the air filter housing, or do you have the five-pin ignition module on the right inner fender or firewall?

If the fuel pump is in the gas tank, do you have throttle body injection or six individual injectors?

For most model years with electronic fuel injection, you need to determine if the automatic shutdown, (ASD) relay is turning on. Check if you have a dark green / orange wire feeding the ignition coil and each of the injectors. If you do, back-probe that wire at any injector with a test light. You should see it turn on for one second when you turn on the ignition switch, then it will go off. What is important is if it turns back on during engine rotation, (cranking or running). That will tell us where to go next.

Use this guide if you need it:

You can use a voltmeter too, but for this type of problem they usually don't respond fast enough. The test light is the better choice.
