The other day my car was having issues overheating, immediately stopped and waited for it to cool down before driving home. We thought it was the thermostat and got it changed out, but the next day I made it 10 minutes until work before it spiked up again, as I was on a bridge and unable to pull over I just finished the drive to work and got it towed home. At this point the car would still turn on.
Realized it was a leak in the water outlet and ordered a new part. When it arrived a few days later and after needing to move the car in and out of the driveway a few times (only one for a minute or so engine still cold) the car would stop turning on. It cranks but doesn't start.
I'm unsure if it's related to the overheating or a completely separate issue. It's not throwing any codes, the battery and alternator are brand new, we changed out the spark plugs thinking it may be that and it seemed to want to turn on a but more than before but still not fully turning on.
Just based on an audible inspection, compression seems to be okay, and there was no smoke or anything that would lead me to believe it's a head gasket or piston ring.
At this point I'm insure of where to go from here.

Hi,

In most cases, it is either a fuel or ignition-related issue. Here is what I need you to do. First, see if it will start with starting fluid. If it does and then stalls, we will know it is fuel related. If there is no change, I need you to check if there is spark to the plugs.

Here is a link that explains how it's done:

Since this happened after it overheated, a head gasket isn't out of the question. So, if you could record it and upload it for me to hear, I might recognize something being missed.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe
