Yesterday my fuel gauge started reading full only. After I filled it, I drove around all day for work, and it just read full. I thought maybe the float is stuck but because I don't feel like cutting a hole in my bed, I thought maybe I can get lucky. So, I started to reset my cluster when I noticed three new engine codes p0138, p0455, and p1687. Are these related to my gauge issue? How can I confirm? Also, what can I do to just throw some money into it and get it over with? Can I just buy a fist full of sensors and say screw I'll just change them all related to the codes?

Hi,

Only one code is related to the fuel gauge. The P0138 is an oxygen sensor related issue and the P0455 is related to an EVAP leak.

The P1687 is related to a buss communication issue with the instrument cluster. However, since it is only one gauge that is causing a problem, it could be the cluster itself. The directions indicate performing an instrument cluster self-check. If the fuel gauge doesn't respond but all other gauges do, the cluster is the most likely cause.

I broke it down to a single gauge not working properly diagnosis in the cluster for you. Take a look at the diagnostics below. Let me know if you are comfortable performing them and what you find.

Also, the gauge not working isn't the result of anything in the fuel tank.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

joe
