I bought a 2007 Mazda 3i with a 2.0 automatic with a bad motor. I have a 2006 3i with a 2.0 automatic and the 2006 has had electrical problems but motor is fresh and transmission are both good, can I put the 2006 motor and transmission in the 2007 with the 2006 ECM, PCU all from the 2006 into 2007 without reprogramming issues or any issues for that matter. Right now isn’t the best time to have a computer reprogrammed and need to find a way to make what I have run without blemish if it’s possible?

From what I can tell on this you will not need to reprogram them however, I don't know how they will interact on your network communication system. You have what is called a CAN bus network. That means the PCM needs to communicate with all the other modules listed in the attachment and to do that the VIN needs to be the same. If you transfer over those components you may have an issue. So what I would suggest is if the engine and transmission are the same, don't transfer over the modules, just the hard parts. They should operate the same.

Clearly this is not just a small swap so it may be worth while to pull the part numbers off your engine and transmission tags and send them over. I will see if they are compatible or you can call the dealer to run both VIN's and ask if the assemblies are the same.

I appreciate getting right back to me, I will have to get a hold of the guy who bought the other engine out of it, it had gotten too hot, I do not know, kid owned it before and I don't think he paid much attention as long as the radio was loud and moving at that moment was all that mattered.
I have both VIN's if that is a possibility to check both the cars as far as comparability? I'll get whatever you need, I really do appreciate it.
I had another question to run by ya about the coolant system, I tossed the radiator, it had a chalky thicker liquid coming out of it after most the coolant was trained, I kept condening cool and pump attached for they shouldn't interchange and mix, but the heater core I have one spare but it doesn't have A/C, can I flush the heater core and still run it if it isn't plugged with any of that substance? Is there anything else you would advise changing or replacing besides the hoses? There was no water in the oil, or mixed anywhere but what I seen of the residue in the radiator?

You would have contact a dealer with the VIN's. I don't have a way to look up the vehicles based on the VIN's. However, if you have access to both engine tags on the engine, just get the part numbers off the engine and we can check them that way. I am not sure where these tags are (if they are still there) so it may be easier to just call the local dealer and ask the parts department to look up the assembly numbers for each. They should be able to tell you what years each engine is compatible for.

As for the coolant question, we unfortunately need to start a new post for that to get into the detail. Reason is, others who search on this topic will not find the answer under this heading.

When you post the question, can you post a picture of the substance that drained out if you still have it? I suspect it was just an additive that someone added but we can tell that when we see it. If this is the case, just flushing the system will get it out. Flush them separately. Engine, radiator, heater core. This way you can see the flow on each but let's get a new one started with that info and we can go from there. Thanks
