I just got this car not even a week ago from a good dealership and it only has 13,000 miles. Tonight I turned it on and I noticed the little lightning bolt on the dash but it came on for about a second and immediately turned back off. What should I do? Should it be fine?

Hey Adrianam01,

When you start your vehicle warning lights will come on and then go out again. This is to show that the lights are functioning and then they will go back out if everything is okay.

This warning light test should happen immediately as you start the vehicle/turn the ignition on. The lights will only come on momentarily.

The lightning bolt warning light points to an issue with the electronic throttle control.

If the light comes on at all outside of this test period then return to the dealer and tell the the problem you are having.

Your vehicle should still be in warranty. The diagnostics and checks will be covered.

If in doubt it is always better to return to the dealer for them to run diagnostics to ensure there is not a fault.

Hope that helps, any further questions please do not hesitate to ask.

Regards, Joe

Thank you very much this really gave me peace of mind. I think i’m just a little freaked out because i’m babying the car since I just got it. So i’m just freaking out about the small things because I want to make sure nothing goes wrong with it. Once again, thank you very much!

Hey ADRIANAM01,

No problem at all, being still in the new car warranty means that you have peace of mind. That's the great thing about new cars!

Check with the dealer how long you have everything covered for and in this period if you have any problems contact the dealer.

It is their job to keep the vehicle going and if you are having a problem the sooner you get it fixed the better.

If you have any questions after speaking to the dealer and need anything explained ask here, we will do our best to run you through it.

Regards, Joe
