The battery light on my message center flashed on. Sometimes it stayed on for a while and sometimes it just blinked on/off. When this happened other electrical components were affected. My gauges would start and stop, the heater blower would stop, some indicator lights failed. At first when it happened I could tilt my steering wheel up or down and it would cure the problem. Other times I could tap on the steering wheel and it would solve the problem. Recently the light came on and would not go out. With that problem the heater blower motor stopped and my gear shift indicator stopped illuminating and my headlights stayed on all the time unless the ignition was turned off. The GMC dealer said they thought replacing the instrument cluster might fix the problem but weren't sure. I didn't want to pay them over $1,000.00 on a guess. I believe it is a wiring problem somewhere in the steering column. Please help.

Good afternoon,

By moving the column up and down, it does sound like a wiring issue.

I would start by going under the dash and checking the wiring for any loose or damaged connectors. See if you can get the options to turn on while moving the harness to narrow the area of failure.
