I was just wondering if it is normal to hear a little winding noise coming from the steering column of my steering wheel when I turn the wheel fast. It sounds like a winding almost like the noise a car makes when going in reverse. But when I am driving and turn the wheel fast it does not make a sound or if I turn the wheel at a somewhat slow speed. It is not noticeable unless I turn the wheel really fast when I am backing out of my driveway. Which I rarely do. But I do not want it to end up being a bigger problem later if it is something bad. Does not affect the way the car steers or how easy it steers. It is just a tiny winding noise when turning it fast when the car is not moving or coasting back and turning the wheel fast.

Hello,

It sounds like the steering motor is going out which is common. Here is how you replace the unit.

Control Module 8965006520 $1164.29

Check out the diagrams (Below). Please let us know what happens.

I called a wrecking yard and got a used unit for $300.00 and installed it works good with no noise. It was a little tough to replace it but with some friends I got it done.

Thanks for the update. That is good info. Salvage yards are always hit or miss but when it works out they are a great resource. I am sure that will help others but probably not this original person because it was about 5 years old. However, thanks for helping the site with this info.
