The OBD II I/M shown green Check light is on but with red X light on EGR. During the last 2 years, this car was just for local driving only, does it cause this problem? Also, it is due for a Smog Check now. Please let me know what their correction is to do with. Thank you very much with the best regards.

Hi,

What we need to do first is scan the computer. It should provide the direction we need to go. Keep in mind, there are a few different things that can adversely affect the EGR. A code should point us in the right direction.

Here is a link that shows how to scan the computer:

I realize not everyone has a scan tool. However, most parts stores will do it for you at no charge. Have this done and let us know the codes that are retrieved.

Take care,

Joe

It is no computer code presents, I figure out that the EGR not open due to no highway driving for so long times causing this problem, I driven this cars for about 30 miles than OBD II shown green check mark on EGR. This car passed Smog Check 2 day ago. Thanks.

Hi,

Thank you for that update. I'm glad to hear that things are working properly and that it passed.

Regardless, take care and feel free to come back anytime in the future.
