Hi, I got a diagnostic tool VX diagnostic tool techstream cable, when I connect that to my Toyota Hilux truck it gives me a message "cannot establish communication with ECU". Kindly help me with that. Why does that message occurs and what is the solution? Many thanks.

Hi,

That means the scan tool is not able to communicate with the ECU that you are attempting to talk to.

More than likely this is one of three things:

1. The module has failed or does not have power or ground.
2. Communication wiring between the DLC and module is open or not able to communicate.
3. The scan tool is not capable of communicating on this vehicle.

I suspect it is either the first or second one. Easiest thing to do in my mind is run by a parts store and see if they can communicate with it. This will be a different scan tool so if two of them cannot communicate then you know it is something with the vehicle and not your tool.

Let me know what you find. Also, give me the background on this vehicle. Does it start and run or have you just made a repair? Thanks

Hello Dear KaseKenny,

Thank you so much for considering my message. Am using VXDIAG tool for Toyota cars and that can read ECU of cars only and not the trucks or cruisers. So reason 3 is the answer and expert advise to have Launch easydiag 3.0 plus which can read trucks and cruiser and multi brand vehicles. Regards, Farhan
