I drove through high water a month ago. The car did not shut off. I did notice white smoke. Next day I took the vehicle for an oil change and an air filter change. Car ran fine. Now, a month later, I had a rough idle at a traffic light and blinking check engine light. I was three minutes from my driveway. I smelled gas when I turned off the car. No smoke from the exhaust. Could this be related to driving through the water?

I get more stuck open evaporative system purge valves on these vehicles more than anything else. The location of the valve depends on the engine size, what engine do you have? 1.6, 2.0, or 2.5? A stuck open purge valve will cause a rich running condition especially when the fuel tank is full.

Okay, here is the 2.0 ecoboost purge valve assembly. It comes with all of the lines attached and is indicated by the blue color. This is one possibility for your issue.
