It had rained very heavily a few weeks ago and I drove in the rain with a couple of people in the car. Some of the streets had a lot of water collected. After that day, I have been noticing a droning/growling sound when accelerating the car 20-30 MPH and even when going faster when applying the gas a little more. The car's spark plugs were changed at 117,000 miles. Is this some exhaust leak issue or heat shield that is loose?

Sounds are best for us to help fix if we have a short video uploaded in your response. If I had to guess I would say an engine or transmission mount has let loose and there is a connect to the subframe that shouldn't be. I would lift the hood and have a helper to the engine and put it in drive and then reverse, (stand to the side) while watching the engine to see if it moves excessively. If you are unsure please upload a short video of this as well.

I haven't had a chance to take the video. However, I just drove the car just now and I hear a whining/squealing sound upon acceleration. This is a new sound that I have never heard before.
