Transmission will not shift into reverse

Loud whining, and loud popping from transfer case and transmission. It will not go in reverse, but will move forward for split second and then the truck will stop, turn off the truck and start it again are clear the ECM will allow it to move.

Just had new transfer case installed and this all started after I used the four wheel drive.

How long was the transfer case installed before this started happening? Then if it didn't start until the vehicle was put in 4WD, it sounds like the transfer case is binding the drivetrain.

We need to go back to where this was installed and make sure the part was correct, it was correctly installed, and that no further damage was done.

When you are clearing the ECM, what codes are you clearing?
