Okay, so when I bought the vehicle listed above 6 weeks ago it had 2 main issues. Wiper motor replacement and window motor/regulator replacement. The parts came with the vehicle it was a simple deal or so I thought. The door panel had been removed and the window was being held up by a board. The door switch control part was tied to the door frame with a zip tie but other than the drivers side the other windows worked from main switches as I used them when I drove this home. After my brother came over to look at my purchase and he being an electrician was troubled by the door wiring as there was black tape holding wires together. I ran up to get a meter and to make a long story short my bro and I have not spoken to each other in over a month because I wanted to take a picture of how the wires were before he undid them. Now he will not tell me what he did and I need to use a hot wire to operate the switches except for lock and unlock. The outside combination lock also works. I'm getting ready to put the door panel back on and I am at a loss I do not know what the black/blue and black wire is for on the door. I see the two light/dark blue wires match on the wires coming from the switches but other than that I cannot get it to work again. As I stated it was McGuyvered up and useable on my way home from purchasing it now I cant get them to work. I have attached a few pics. Thanks

Thanks for the images. Yep, that needs some work to fix. Here are the door lock and window wiring diagrams with the guide to help you check them:

Check out the diagrams (below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Thank you so much. I'm going to try. I actually made an appointment with a licensed mechanic for next Thursday the 14th. I asked what his hourly rate was and he said they don't by the hour they charge by the job. Not sure if that's good or bad. I still have some time to save myself some money if I can figure it out. I will definitely post back with pics solutions etc. Thank you very very much!

I certainly will. Thank you very much. If it wasn't winter and I had a garage I'm sure I would be spending more time on it myself. I try to go out on 35* plus days and there haven't been many.

Can I ask an honest question here? I ended up only paying $1,000.00 for this Explorer. Body is no rust frame is great for being up North. I have purchased relay testers fuses wires relays etc, etc, etc, probably another 3 to 5 hundred in little things. Hydraulic jack tires etc. After knowing my issues the wipers and the door. What is a fair price to put in it. $500.00, $1,000.00, I don't know. Or should I try to sell it for a $1,000.00 and try to recoup my losses? I have traced the problem with your help and a few others to between the wiper harness and the Combination Switch arm. And tge door is a mess but it's do-able. Like what is reasonable and what isn't? I know you can't give me like a quote but if you were me what would you call enough BS and just get rid of it and better luck next time? I'm completely serious at the moment out of frustration! I can change a water pump a belt put brakes on. I mean even though I'm 56 year old female I can do some mechanical as well as body work I just never had to monkey with electric and I have always heard Expert Mechanics really do not like it either. 2 months later and I should have been driving this by now. I'm just frustrated. Sorry if this post isn't issue related but in all reality it really is. Maybe I should go to a Junkyard and try to find a driver's door. Just not sure. I will definitely let you know what the issue is, was and if I keep it or not. Again thank you so much for even having a site for people to go to for answers. This site is awesome!

It's hard to say to sell it or not, if it were me I would cut open the damaged parts and just wire it the way it is in the diagrams and get rid of that plastic mess in the door jam and fix the connector.

Thank you for the reply. I'm actually halfway there. I'm very proud of myself using the diagrams and wire troubleshooting guide. I also have a 1995 Ford Explorer wiring and vacuum diagram book. I've learned though. It can be frustrating but it's also rewarding in its own way. Will post pictures, issues I found and what I did to fix it. I went to a salvage yard today and I'm hoping to get everything done tomorrow. Thank you. 1995 was a horse of a different color. Wow! Someone told me to always save receipts and see if I can return parts I've bought because even though the claim is that the part is an exact fit for my vehicle does not mean it actually does fit! I got sent a 5 pin. Wiper motor instead of the 6 pin I need. So.I found one today at the salvage yard on a 1996 that still has 01/21 inspection sticker on it. I'm thinking that motor that worked with hot wire is like half bad if that's possible. I'm making some progress thanks to this site. Have a great night!

The window diagrams you gave me were for a 2 door. Mine is actually a 4 door. Would the wiring still be the same? The color diagrams are great!
