Drive shaft coupler recall?

There's a permanent recall on the drive shaft coupler of my van. The last time that I had it done I ended up having to pay to have the torque converter fixed. I didn't have any issues prior to taking the van in for the drive shaft coupler recall. They are now wanting to do the recall again and I'm worried that they're going to mess up the transmission. Should I be worried that them changing the drive shaft coupler could cause damage to the torque converter in the transmission?

Hi,

The coupler is external and has nothing to do with the torque converter. So, as far as the converter is concerned, nothing needs to be touched.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Thanks for your reply, Joel! I did some more reading on the internet and apparently there are some other people who have had the same issue. They have the coupler recall done and as soon as that's done, they start to feel the vibration from the torque converter slipping. I think my concern is that something is happening while they're doing the coupler repair that causes the torque converter to go out. I have no knowledge of vehicles really, but it appears that I'm not the only person who has had this issue. Thank you for your reply.

Hi,

Does the vehicle have a 3.7L engine? If you look below, pics 1 and 2, I have an arrow pointing to where the torque converter is located (TC). That is called the transmission bell housing. The transmission and engine join together at that point and the torque converter is bolted to a flywheel at that point.

Also, at the opposite end of the transmission is the coupling. It is accessible without removing the transmission, so I'm not sure why one would affect the other. There wouldn't be a need to remove the transmission.

Let me know if that helps or if you have additional questions.

Take care,

Joe

See pics below. Pic 2 has the coupler highlighted.
