DPF code

My EML came on and after having taken to garage they said it was DPF. Mechanic said it did not have one so took it to numerous garages all said the same, contacted Ford and they verified my car was never fitted with DPF. They scanned for software update and came up with DPF update which they did. EML came back on again. Surely they are responsible for wrong software installed when new. Surely the DPF code should not come up if it never had one.

Could you please post the actual code(s) you are getting. I would like to look it up and see what the conditions are for it to be set and see if something other than a DPF could trigger it. Perhaps something like excess exhaust restriction for an old muffler or similar. If it was simply the lack of the DPF the code and light should have come on the first time it was started on the factory lot.
I am more inclined to believe that the ECU is seeing something that it interprets as a bad DPF. Just need to track down what.
