Hello,

There is a micro switch inside the ignition tumbler which is stuck. Try WD40 inside the tumble where the key goes then cycle the key in and out several times to see if the switch unsticks. Let me know what happens.

Ken, I want to thank you for the information. I paid $129.99 for a diagnostic on the car and I was told it was the BCM (Body Control Module). I did not think that was it and decided to seek help because I was sure it was in the ignition but was not sure. After just spraying WD40 in it and cycled the key then letting it sit for hour and a half the switch was unstuck. Again thank you very much.

Hi. After about one week without the door chime going off without the key in the ignition when I open the drivers side door it started again. It was off and on chiming at first, I sprayed some more WD40 in the ignition again I cycled the key now the chime is back. I took the car again 1997 Plymouth Prowler to different Dealer for Diagnostic test and asked them to change ignition switch did not stop the chiming. I asked for a diagnostic on the car and they are saying the BCM (Body Control Module) is the problem saying I need BCM rebuilt or new.

Yep, if the switch is good the BCM would be next. Here is the location so you can do it yourself. You will need to get it programmed by a shop it should cost about $130.00. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Thank you. After checking around I found out the BCM is no longer sold in the US. I have to ship my BCM to have it repaired to Florida. I will get it back in 12 to 15 days and I email you back when I get it to let you know how it goes.
