I have a 2004 dodge ram 1500 that is overheating. It smells of engine coolant after running. i changed the fan clutch, the thermostat, and radiator cap, i am loosing coolant, and it seems, the thermostat does not open. it can get extremely hot after only 5 miles or less.

Is there a visible leak? If not I assume you are loosing coolant. Can you see any bubbles in rad? Does top rad hose get very hard after a little time? When you turn it offf does it blow back through recovery tank?
If yes to first two? Then possible head gasket failure
If yes to next two? Then needs thermostat.
