I need some repair advice for my 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 5.2liter V8. Last week while driving my transmission just quite. It fell out of gear going down the road. No slipping, vibrations or sounds. It just gave out. The transmission will not go into gear at all. The shift lever moves fine, but the tranny does not engage at all. I checked the tranny fluid and it was clean no metal shavings at all. Could it be the torque converter? Any advice on repair would be greatly appreciated.

It could be. I would take the pan down. After pressure testing for line pressure. It may be a pump or a broken input shaft. A very good very re-pairable unit. I hope it works out ok for you. Ok It was rare for a no engagement on a 42RE. Usually it was a broken part or hydraulic valve problem, you may be able to tell by looking at the debris in the oil pan.
