1997 Dodge Truck stalling

My 97 dodge 1500 with the 5.9L v8 360 129000 mi starts with some trouble idles fine in park when I change gears to r or d it dies immediatly runs like a top till I get to a light then the idles drops all the way when brakes are applied I have a brand new battery in if it matters

I had the almost identical problem with my 1996 Dodge 5.2 liter. It was fixed by replacing the Idle Air Control Valve. About $40 for the part, but a little hard to get to on the intake manifold, if I recall correctly. For more info: carlinpace@yahoo. Com
