1993 Dodge Stealth Problems with Reverse & 5th Gear

Transmission will go into 5th gear but pushes back on the shift lever when under load and will pop out of 5th. Won't go into reverse.

What is the likely cause and how difficult (expensive) a repair should I expect?

Hi Tom, you have a common problem. It can be expensive to have the work done such as 3XXX or less. But what has happenned is the 5th gear syncronizer is bad not letting trans stay in gear. Also the nut that holds fifth gear together is backed off or fell off. The fix is not hard but best left to SOME ONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING! Behind left front wheel is the access point to remove the trans cover over 5th gear. Good luck and hope this helps Inspector Mopar.
