Differential noise

I have a 2004 Ram 1500 2WD, 4.7 V8, with 86,000 miles. It has a whining noise in the rear end that has gotten progressively louder over the last few weeks. Pitch and volume of noise increase with speed.
Is there an additive that can help? If not, what can I expect repairs to cost?

As far as I know it is a regular axle. I do not know how to tell if it is Limited Slip. I bought the truck used so I do not have an invoice with a list of options.

As far as fluid, I started to take the rubber fill hole plug out, and fluid came running out, so I think it is full. I bought the truck at 44k and it is now at 86 K and I have never changed the fluid.

The sound seems to get higher pitched as the speed of the wheels increases.
