While driving if I press hard on accelerator I hear a whining noise, like something isn't engaging. When I let off the accelerator briefly the noise stops. Noise seems to be intermittent any ideas would be helpful

Could it be the cooling fan? They have a clutch on them and are designed to spin faster when it's hot, but at times they malfunction and you can hear them at any time.
