2001 Dodge Ram No power in 5th and terrible mileage

I have almost no power in 5th gear and am getting 14 mpg on hwy around 12 city. I have taken it to shops and they say its fine but it just doesn't seem right. The guy I bought it from claimed around 20mpg on highway and like 15 or 16 city. As for the power problems in 5th I have no idea. I can have the pedal to the floor and not gain any speed at all if there is even a slight incline I lose speed. 4th seems to be fine though

Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked the catalytic converter to see if it is plugging?

As far as fuel mileage, in town I wouldn't expect more than 12MPG. On the highway, 15 to 16 is good.
