2001 Dodge Ram 2001 Dodge Ram running awful

I have a 2001 Dodge Ram with a 5.9 v8. It just recently started hesitating when I take off at low speeds. Then it sounds like a cough or backfire coming from the engine. It also makes a very loud whistling noise. It only does this at idle or at very low speeds, not a freeway speeds. PLease help. Thanks and God Bless.

Welcome to the forum, how long since a tune-up? Use a gage and check fuel pressure. Are there any trouble codes? Some of the national brand autostores will check codes for free. With idle issues, I take the throttle-body off and clean it. Maybe a vacuum leak somewhere?
