my powere steering gearbox is leaking does it need replacing or can it be repaired and which one would be the cheapest of the 2.

that depends where the steering box is leaking, and if you have the proper tools to fix it, your local parts store will sell a kit to replace the seals, but I think it will be cheaper for you, and less work. If you go to your local salvage yard and buy another one.
