1999 Dodge Ram Engine ping

Under any load engine has started to ping. If i'm pulling a load it seems to also pop. It is almost like a mechanicao advance problem. Does this engine have elctronic advance that would cause a problem like this?

Check engine light come on if so have igt coded and post codes. If not hvae EGR operation checked if it does not open or passageways are clogged it will ping. The pop is likely a missfire due to high cumbustion temp ie. Egr keeps temp down.
