I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK. I HAD BROKEN DOWN TODAY. THE REAR AXEL IN THE MIDDLE WAS LEAKING A LITTLE AND WAS SMOKING WITH A BAD ODER. When I stepped on gas the truck would not go over 40 mph and was screaming really loud. I had spoke to a MECHANIC HE SAID IT MIGHT BE THE REAR DIFFERNTIAL. What would that cost you think

What is sounds like is the end went dry and is now coming apart. You can disconnect the driveshaft and pull the pumpkin and check it. To rebuild it may be costly, or you can try to find one in a salvage yard. You would have to compare the prices to figure what is best for you, sometimes with money short for a lot of people it would be easier to but from a salvage yard. Usually they supply the whole rear assembly not just the pumpkin
