"GEN" light, what is it?

In order for me to go out where I was going I had to go through a "mud area" it was just a bunch of water and the top 3" were mud but anyway I was very easy on gas and a light came on that reads "GEN" and im worried about what it is. Can u tell me what it means and what I should do please.

Hello,

The 'GEN' light refers to the generator/alternator. This light gets triggered when the battery is not getting adequate charge from the alternator.

It could be due to a bad alternator as well as faulty wiring.
First check to see the alternator output to the battery.

Check for any corrosion on the alternator cable. Look for any water damage or mud being on the connectors of the cable.
Clean if necessary.
