1995 Dodge Ram transmision and drive shafts

I have a transmision from a 1998 dodge 2500 that is shorter in size than the transmision in my 1500 and im wondering if I tooke the transmision and drive shafts out of my 2500 and put them in my 1500 if it would work?

We recommend direct replacement parts because when you change things, something else always seems to go bad. I don't under stand why they would be a different length if they are the same year. My biggest concern is the will the transfer case align with the mounts if the trans is different in length. Can you switch tail housings? Other than overall length, do the trans look the same?
