i put a new battery in my truck and I tried to start it and as it went to turn over the alternator belt snapped and im wondering how I replace it?

The alternator is on a piviot. Loosten the mounting bolts and it will move to loosten and tighten the belt. Put the new belt on and then tighten the belt by pivioting the alt. There should be aprox 1/2" play in the belt up and down when it is tight enough. Retighten the alt and you are done.
