I have a 1975 winnebago with a dodge 440, we bought it for 1000$ about a month ago and it ran fine but one day it just died, now when we try and run it it either won't start or will idle for about 1min and then die and sometime if we get it to start we can give it gas and it will rev up but then eventually die and other times as soon as we hit the gas it will die, we changed the fuel filter and checked the fuel pump and they all work, we think it might be something with the carburator but would like to here your advice on what you think it might be before we start messing with the carb...

Thanks,
Ben

First check your ignition system before going tot he carb. You have a ballast resistor that could be going bad, if your truck seems to start on the start side but quits on the ignition side( when you let off the key to start) then it's a good possiblilty that it's the ballast resistor. I forgot where they are though, it may be under the hood opening up front or inthe engien compartment. It is white and has 4 contacts on it and about 1"X2". Check your pick up coil inside the distributor for 2 things, air gap should be.008-.010 checked with a non magnetic dfeeler gauge and advance vacuum to make sure it doesn't hit he reluctor. Then check for ohms it shoud be in teh 150-900 range. If that doesn't work go back to the site and check the tune up page as it will go through a step by step on how to check it out. It still could be your carb due to the alcohol in todays fuel it may wreak havoc with it. YOu may have a float that has sunk and doesn't work any longer. You may have carter thermoquad on it which there are still parts available for it.
