2001 Dodge Neon 4 cyl 141000 miles

I have recently started having idle and acceleration problems. Had the computer flashed and it seemed to make the problem worse. The engine light has been on. Today after driving 1 hr highway speed, stopping then accelerating from a light the engine light flashed 20+ times and thought the car was going to stall. Have been told it is the catalytic converter. Can you please help me.

If the engine light flashed, there is a trouble code stored in the computer. You should have it scanned to identify what is causing the problem. Most nationally recognized parts stores will do it for free.

As far as the catylatic converter, yes, it could be the problem. Many times they run really hot when they are plugging. After driving the car at night, check it with the engine running to see if it is red hot. If it is, it's plugging.
