Hi I have a 99 dodge neon. I bought it used a couple months ago.I was driving it yesterday and it started to spuatter and loose power and then it would drive fine again and a couple miles down would do the same it would make a knock and then sputter and loose power.I have no mechanic back round and no nothing about cars plus i'm a girl LOL can somebody help me

Is it a continous knocking noise from the engine? If so, it could be a bad harmonic balancer which would also result in loss of horsepower.

Check your fluid levels and life of them (smell burnt, look milky, etc.) Oil, transmission fluid, coolant. Check them all.

Hi no it's not all the time. It's only 1 knock and it happens before it starts to sputter then it just sputters and looses power and the will drive normally and then could do it in 5 minuters like it could do it in 1 hour
