1998 Dodge Neon Having a prolem?

I have a 98 plymouth neon, which I just put a brand new timing and water pump in it. It starts bt it putters and acts like it wants to turn of bt stays running until I put it in drive or reverse then it will stahl and I have to start it again. As long as I get going it works just fine bt if it idles too long or I am driving to slow it will stahl again and I have to keep restarting it. And when I have to start it sometimes I have to press down on the gas a little bit for it to start. Whats wrong with my car?

did you have that problem prior to the timing belt?

Nope I had no trouble prior to the timing going out.

Which engine you have
check timing marks
and do a compression test
