I have been having an antifreeze smell coming from my car for a few months, but my temperature guage never showed that my car was running hot. Well the other day, I had been driving around for about two hours and my guage showed that it was starting to get hot. I took it by a mechanic shop and they said my heater core has a leak. Is there a temporary fix for this? Where is the heater core located? If I keep anti freeze in my reservoir will it keep it from overheating until I can afford to fix it?

Any fix but ther right one can block the heater core and leave you with no heat. If you dont need heat, get a flush kit, and insert the Tee into the heater core feed and return lines Butt them together with the tee.
