Chrysler Intrepid 2001 - High-Pitched noise

Just bought an Intrepid with 80K and drove like a dream for a couple weeks, then it turned cold here. Driving along and noticed that around 80 kph a very high pitched whining noise began. If I let the acceleration off or sped up the noise would diminish or disappear. Weather warmed up, no noise. Weather got cold again today and noise returned. This time when noise started I slipped transmission into neutral and maintained rph. Noise immediately disappeared. Please tell me I"m not one of those stuck with an "oil sludge" problematic engine and should be running scared at this point.

I dont know if the two are related, but my 98 intrepid did the same thing each morning when the temp outside dipped below 40 degrees. Mechanics didnt find [b]anything wrong. This sound came faithfully every morning, as long as winter hung around. I just recently had to have my timing chain repaired and all of the valves and pistons, and guess what, no noise. Check out those parts first.
Good luck.
