Check engine light

Dodge Intrepid R/T 2001 with 112460 miles. No, the mileage is not a typo. This is the first issue I have had. The check engine light comes on at start and stays on. The only symptom I can say is there is occassionally a mild acceleration surge. Other than that all seems fine. Temp runs normal, all fluids good, serp belt looks ok (replaced at 80k miles). Any ideas? After a phone call to a repair shop, they said maybe a vacuum leak?

I'm no expert but first find what code is causing the check engine light. Any garage could use their code reader and tell you what the codes are. I don't know if they would charge a fee for this. I know tha Auto Zone will check it for free. You might even consider purchasing a code reader. They can range from about $50 for the ones you use your computer with to about $350 for the one that Auto Zone sells. After getting the cos=des then you can start trouble shooting. It could be any issue that goes to your emmisons.

Spark Plugs, spark plug wires and several different sensors. Start with getting the codes read.

As far as the vacuum leak, usually your car will idle at a higher RPM. You can also often hear a hissing sound under your hood as this is a vacuum leak sucking air. :D

Good Luck!
