2004 Dodge Intrepid reverse

My dodge intrepid transmission reverse justwent out on me. Ive been told it can be something as simple as a fuse do I have to get the whole thing rebilut? Because I was also told the whole transmission starts going out and it starts with the reverse first. I wanna do it myself can you explain it to me in detail?

It could be a sensor, a band in the trans. Did the check engine light or any warning light come on?

As far as rebuilding the trans, I strongly recommend getting a good repair manual that provides directions step by step and pictures to identify parts. For me to explaine it via the internet would take forever and allow for too many errors.
