2003 Dodge Intrepid shuttering and engine light

My son has a 2003 dodge intrepid SE and on his way to work this morning, the car started shuttering, the check engine and the oil light came on. It was hard to steer, but he coasted to the side of the road. He shut the car off and waited a minute and then proceeded to drive to work and he said the car ran fine, but the engine light is still on. He retightened the gas cap again. He called the garage and they can't look at it till saturday and today is tuesday. Is it safe to keep driving? He has to drive back and forth to work about 8 miles each way.

Take the car to a nationally recognized part store and have them scan it for you. Let me knoiw what you find.

My son wants to know how long you went to college to give us that answer. We already know to take it to a garage and find out what the code is! You are the technician, you are supposed to give suggestions instead of us taking it to a shop and then telling you what the problem was.
