My car recently started to jerk while I am driving. No matter what speed i'm going the car will jerk and speed up at the same time. Also just today I was waiting at a stop light and the car just shut off. I do not know how that is possible, but I put it back in park then turned the ignition, it came on and I drove off. I don't want this to continue and wast to reslolute early because I can't be stranded in the middle of the intersection with my two children. Please help. Not sure where to start.

I wouldn't drive it like this, if I were fixing it I would take the key until I was sure of what is wrong. Does it feel at all different in the way your gas pedal feels? The throttle position sensor judges your foots pressure, it may be bad. It's going to need a computer scanner to be sure. It plugs into a diagnostic connector in your car. Please be careful.
